YAGANET MODEL
We identify, empower and support in scaling up small survival enterprises owned by hardworking women and young entrepreneurs from rural and underserved communities.
The identified women and youth in agribusiness or non-farm enterprises are trained among other things in business development skills, financial literacy, record keeping, group dynamics, customer care and life skills using customized content.
We then organize them into savings groups according to their enterprises; thereafter we enable these women and youth in groups to access scale-up seed capital in form of micro credit at only 3% interest. And the 3% interest goes back to the savings groups for their sustainability. After a member enterprise has reached a level of repayment, she/he pays the borrowed money to the savings group for other new trained women and youth owned enterprises to access it and vise-vasa.
Most of our trained and recruited entrepreneurs who receive scale-up seed capital inform of microloans are women and young people, who traditionally have fewer resources and less access to financial services from banks. YAGANET frequently links these savings groups to other financial institutions where necessary for continuous access to financial and non financial services..
Our three program pillars
Women and youth play a very important role in poverty eradication and improving the level of living. Since the overall level of education attainment among rural women and youth is low, their contribution is often limited to unskilled and manual work.
We train and impart business & managerial skills to women and youth needed to start and run a profitable farm and non-farm businesses.
We do research for evidence based interventions. We provide development and welfare support services including the expanded social package that influences rural underserved communities to improve among others services; community social and emotional support, and linkage to community agribusiness resources; Access to Safe Water for production, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Create ICT innovations for inclusiveness in agribusiness.
